2-Penny Opera
It's a great day to be alive in the land of 2-Penny Opera! Join co-hosts Tim Kemper and Laurie Niles as they weave their way through the acoustic musical world of folk, Bluegrass, Celtic, and Americana. Revisit the folk ballads that brought tears to your eyes; kick off your shoes and dance to the fired-up Irish fiddle, and lightning speed of the New Grass pickers.
2-Penny Opera is dedicated to acoustic music and song every Saturday, 11:00am to 1:30pm
Laurie Niles 2 Penny Opera Co-Host for 15 years shares some thoughts on her community radio experiences:
"I've listened to KZFR since its early air wave days back in the early 1990s. Tim Kemper, my partner in dj~ing (we alternate every other Saturday) evolved the format of 2 Penny Opera from when Chris Schadt had the Saturday morning show "Poet & Guitars", acoustic based music being the central makeup of the shows music, yet that touches not only Bluegrass, Folk, & Americana, it also can be heard in Gospel, Latin, Blues, & Jazz (think Django Reinhardt).
Favorite moments? For the past 3 1/2 years, I have had the pleasure of assisting now 10 year old Ginger Nichols as she stepped into the KZFR community radio programming role. I'm pretty certain she is the youngest individual to express a desire to program & steadfastly stay with it. She now hosts her own 1/2 radio show every other Tuesday evening. Aside from listening to Ginger come into her own voice, I've had the pleasure of interviewing Chris Smithers, Harry Manx, Erika Luckett, Darrell Scott, & Ben Taylor.
Being a musician, an author, a critical thinker, or a local artist, having a voice, being able to share a story, BEING HEARD is not something to take for granted. With each KZFR programmer comes a wave of uniqueness, a style and presentation that is not dictated to by a formula corporate calling.
CommUnity radio!, thanks for listening in!" ~ Laurie
