2020 marks KZFR's 30th year of broadcasting in northern California.

In The Beginning

In 1981, Erik Mathisen set out to build a translator service to bring the signal of KPFA from Berkeley to the North State. Then a volunteer asked, "Instead of taking our programming, wouldn't it be better to create programming that reflects your community?" It took nine years to secure the necessary permits and finances to build the station but after lots of hard work by Mathisen and a handful of dedicated pioneers, KZFR Community Radio began broadcasting on July 6th, 1990.

30 years later KZFR is still going strong thanks to your support. Keep KZFR Going Another 30 Years
