"When I was discharged from the submarine service in 1970, I used my GI Bill to attend the Columbia School of Broadcasting because I wanted to be a DJ. Once I learned how tenuous DJ employment was, I dropped out in order to securely support my family. Jumping ahead to 1996, I moved to Cohasset & started listening to KZFR. That was my first realization that there was public radio where a DJ could still program there own show. Fellow KZFR programmers Tim Kemper & Rick Anderson are co-hosting a very special Tribute Show in honor of long term programmer John Dubois Saturday April 3, 2021.
"John was one of the original programmers who started this station and helped keep us on the air for 30 something years. He created many of the systems we use today and the digital library will always be one of his greatest achievements. He started our website. He cared about programmers and always wanted you to sound good. He and I worked closely together over the last ten years to make sure we were up to speed with new technologies and innovations. He will be missed. We share condolences with his wife Tami and all his family." - Rick Anderson, KZFR General Manager
Mr. John Lin Dubois Obituary 1947-2021 "Throughout his life John spent time in California, Maryland and Florida. In his youth his family knew him to be artistic, musical and his love of reptiles caused a constant source of trouble for his family and amusement for him. After an unsanctioned experiment created a big stink in the Science lab at Northwood High School in Wheaton, Maryland, John found his way to the Randolph Macon Military School in Front Royal, Virginia. John's musical talents led him to play guitar and sing in a band in his teens and early twenties; skills he enjoyed the rest of his life playing with friends each week." read full obit & leave your condolences
