Happy Birthday Medicare: Butte County Will Celebrate the 50th
Anniversary of Medicare
Come celebrate
Medicare’s five decades of success with birthday cake, ice cream, and music.
For half a century Medicare has provided seniors and persons with disabilities with guaranteed health care. The Medicare 50th Birthday Committee, a coalition of local organizations, invites all to celebrate Medicare’s 50th Birthday. The committee will present three events planned for Chico, Oroville, and Paradise.
The celebration with birthday cake will happen in Paradise on Tues, July 28, from 8-11 a.m. at the Paradise Farmers Market, located on 6491 Clark Rd. Donations are welcome.
An Ice Cream Social in Oroville is set for Thursday, July 30, from 5-7 p.m., at the Southside Oroville Community Center, located on 2959 Lower Wyandotte Rd. Attendees can expect live entertainment, speakers, and the showing of “The Healthcare Movie.” Donations are welcome.
The Medicare Birthday finale will happen in Chico on Sat, Aug 1, from 7:30 a.m. – 12 noon, at the Chico Farmers Market, located on East 2nd Street. Festivities will include: speakers, music, cake, and educational material. Donations are welcome.Medicare 50th Birthday Celebration Committee
Many local community organizations
have come together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passage
of Medicare. These include: Butte County Health Care Education, Coalition (BCHCEC), Physicians for a National Health
Program, Chico Chapter, California Nurses Association, Chico Peace and Justice
Center, Butte – Glen Central Labor Council, Frack-Free Butte County, League of
Women Voters, Paradise Democratic Club, Stonewall Alliance Center, California
One Care, Democratic Action Club of Chico, Retired Public Employees
Association, and others. Each of the participating organizations
is working towards a universal, single payer healthcare system. They honor the
many social and economic benefits of this successful program by declaring that
we should “Protect It, Improve It and Expand It to All.” For
