We Have A Winner!

We are excited to announce the winner of our 35th Anniversary Art Contest - Congratulations to local artist Katharine Sherman!

From the artist - "Community radio lends us a valuable human voice in a time when the rise of AI is making that increasingly rarer to find. It is refreshing to experience that genuine human tone when so much of our world can now feel sterile and impersonal. It's so important for a person to feel connected and involved in the world immediately around them, and local community radio is one of the last things providing that opportunity.

I am part of just one of several generations that have enjoyed KZFR - I fondly remember it playing in the background during my childhood, and my dad's favorite KZFR shirt he'd wear.

Visually, what inspired my design were the surreal shapes and textures found in the art of the late 60s. Think the Beatles' Yellow Submarine movie - I'd been waiting for an excuse to do something in that style. I wanted it to be a nod not only to the history of KZFR, but the history of the radio itself."

Kat's cool vintage radio design will be featured on a commemorative t-shirt during our upcoming Spring Pledge To Protect Community Radio Drive. Stay tuned to the Mighty Zephyr for details.
