On American Pastimes we'll start with a bluesy set of folk musicians. There's a song from Kate Wolf recorded live at the old Chico venue, Cabo's. Always some bluegrass, new and classic, featuring all the greats: Mac Wiseman, Jimmy Martin, Bill Monroe & Kenny Baker, and Ralph Stanley. The South Georgia Highballers made four recordings in 1927 (two featured the bowed hand-saw!) and we'll listen to them all. Dom Flemons newest release is sampled. And we'll get a healthy serving of a Smithsonian Folkways release called "The Village Out West" a collection of recordings made by amateur engineer Alan Oakes at various California venues during the 1960's which features some of the best of California's folk musicians and string bands and a couple of Doc Watson performances. It all wraps up energetically with Bugs Bunny calling a square dance and contemporary string bands rockin' the house.
