American Pastimes starts off with a host of singer-songwriters performing at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Then, a talented family band from Kentucky, Zoe Speaks, turns out some really fine music. Local folks like Hawks & Eagles (Jimmy & Nancy Borsdorf) and Still Here (Fred Colgan, Kris Hare & John Wahl) are featured. From 1928 we hear four scratchy sides of high energy barn dance instrumentals from Luke Highnight & His Ozark Strutters; and from 1976 we get a taste of a short-lived California old-tyme string band, the Last Straw String Band. In between there's lots of bluegrass and old-time contemporary string bands.
