Tonight on LA Sounds, to celebrate the life of Aretha Franklin, I’ll be playing music by musicians who influenced Aretha and who Aretha influenced by such singers such as Tina Turner, Luther Vandross, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Natalie Cole, Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Whitney Houston, Mavis Staples and gospel music by Elvis Presley, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Dixie Hummingbirds and the Swan Silvertones.
