Equally adept at delivering a whispery, poetic ballad and belting out the blues, singer-songwriter-guitarist
Alli Battaglia is excited to introduce the arrival of her most dynamic
and cohesive musical project to date, titled simply, “Alli Battaglia”.
The new collection of music will first be unveiled via a worldwide Listening Party at 1:30 p.m. PT on January 2 at kzfr.org,
courtesy of Chico, California’s, KZFR 90.1FM. The 90-minute audio event
will feature the new album in its entirety, along with an insightful
interview with Alli and producer, Bruce Spencer. A live performance
CD-release party will take place at 7 p.m. PT on January 29, at the Chico Women’s Center, and wide distribution will commence on February 5 via www.allibattaglia.com, iTunes, ReverbNation, and CD Baby.
Alli fans old and new can expect a vibrant next step to the sounds she
has made around the region for the past 15 years, thanks to Alli’s keen
progression as an artist as well as a new musical partnership with
Sacramento-based producer Spencer, who had tenures as drummer for Jackie
Greene and Wynonna Judd, and has worked with a diverse set of folks
including Warren Haynes, Larry Gatlin, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and Melvin
Seals. The Battaglia-Spencer partnership has culminated in a more
refined, well-produced sound than Alli fans are accustomed. Harmonies
soar, jams are compelling and purposeful, and with a background in
drumming, Spencer’s input has also brought forth a pleasing increase in
percussive layers, in addition to the uber-crisp and clean production.
That is not to say it’s not still all Alli! The pitch-perfect performer
was the chief songwriter on all 10 musical pieces, including the tender
ballad, “Accolades”, and sassy rocker, “Open Road”. Spencer’s ability to
instinctively understand and interpret Alli's work has resulted in a
very powerful, better-than-ever portrayal of Alli's songwriting and
vision.
A veteran of the northern California music scene, the
Berklee School of Music-educated Battaglia began her musical journey
after having a prophetic revelation following a near-fatal auto accident
on Christmas Eve 2000. A prolific songwriter, Alli played hundreds of
solo and band concerts over the years with a variety of players,
including her three brothers. Longtime collaborator and Chico lead
guitar luminary Brian “Gravy" Asher is on the album along with Spencer
on percussion, keyboards, and background vocals. Other players on the
record include Mark Harmon (The 77s, Jimmy Pailer and The Prophets) on
bass and guitar; Mike Roe (Lost Dogs, The 77s, former host of radio
program “Rock Scope”) as well as special appearances from Roger Smith
(Dave Matthews Band, Tower of Power) on keyboards and Nathan Dale
(Jackie Greene Band) on guitar. Another longtime Alli collaborator and
local favorite, Glenn Tucker, will play keyboards for the live band.
It’s time for you to rediscover Alli Battaglia!
