The first hour of American Pastimes features Bob's Nobel Lecture with a sampling of some of the songs that earned him the Nobel Prize for Literature. When he was awarded the honor last year it immediately generated debate about whether musical lyrics were the equivalent to literature. Even Dylan seemed perplexed by the idea that his songs were the literary equals to novels, short stories and other forms of prose. In his lecture though he seems to finally embrace the award and he speaks of the role that literature has played in his song writing while ackowledging the difference between listening to a story and reading a story.
