American Pastimes starts off with some electricity and then segues through traditional folk and string band music. We cover some songs from the motion picture soundtrack of "The Mountain Minor" and head way back in time to 1930 to listen to square danceable Lonesome Luke and His Farm Boys and The Swamp Rooters. California folk icon Jim Ringer shows up along with a bunch of folks covering Pete Seeger songs, and there's also a set of tunes about California. The last hour is crammed with a frenzy of string bands singing about lots of things, but mostly about women.
