Women Unite to Expand Affordable Homeownership in Butte County Habitat for Humanity of Butte County’s 5th Women Build fundraiser brings together community members and local businesses to both raise funds and construct homes.
CHICO, CA, April 6, 2026 – In a weekend blitz of home construction, dozens of community members and local businesses are uniting during Habitat for Humanity of Butte County’s signature Women Build fundraiser.
Scheduled for May 1-2, 2026, this fifth annual event is an opportunity to raise funds and literally build community, shoulder-to-shoulder, with future Habitat homeowners. This hard work helps keep construction costs low, and helps more local families achieve affordable homeownership and long-term stability.
Each year, Women Build teams work on constructing multiple homes – either in Chico or Paradise – guided by professional construction staff. No previous experience is necessary. Participants must be 16 years old or older. This year’s build is in Paradise.
At a time when housing availability and affordability continue to challenge working families in Butte County, Women Build brings the community together to support affordable homeownership that builds individual and generational wealth. Affordable homeownership creates stability that strengthens families and expands opportunity across our community, according to Habitat for Humanity of Butte County Executive Director Nicole Bateman.
“Women Build demonstrates the multiplier effect of homeownership. When we build alongside future homeowners, the impact goes far beyond the walls of a house,” Bateman said. “A stable, affordable home creates better health, stronger educational outcomes for children, and long-term financial independence. When one family thrives, our entire community grows stronger.”
Individual participants fundraise to participate on build day. Participation helps future homeowners build and purchase their homes with affordable financing and supports bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Corporate sponsorships are also available.
In 2025, more than 60 participants and 25 businesses raised about $52,000 to support affordable homeownership in Butte County.
