“Festival for Democracy:” A Local Celebration of First Amendment Rights & Community Resilience

CHICO, CA — On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Indivisible Chico, in partnership with a broad coalition of local organizations, will host a Festival for Democracy at the Chico City Plaza. This locally funded event invites North State residents to peacefully exercise their First Amendment rights through a multicultural celebration of community, music, and civic engagement. The Chico festival is part of a global movement, with over 3,000 "No Kings" Day of Action events planned across the U.S. and internationally on the same day.

The festival is designed to emphasize the fundamental right to gather and peacefully protest in response to authoritarian actions many feel are eroding democratic institutions and harming local communities. Organizers invite families, students, and residents to join this peaceful, civil engagement event to reaffirm the power of the "Public Square."

Event Highlights (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM):
  • The Public Square: A diverse range of local shops, artists, and community groups hosting family-friendly booths designed to educate and entertain.
  • Live Local Music: Performances by local musicians providing a celebratory backdrop for civic dialogue.
  • The Community Pledge: An interactive art project allowing residents to make their voices heard alongside local organizers and advocates.
  • Local Economic Support: Attendees are encouraged to visit downtown businesses and local food vendors to support the North State economy.
Building on popular events of 2025—which included the Hands Off protest in April, the No Kings March in June, and the Fall Festival for Democracy in October—this event continues Indivisible Chico’s mission of community-led advocacy.
