Kim Weir is editorial director and founder of Up the Road, a nonprofit journalism project dedicated to sustaining the California story—and to sustaining the West. She is also researcher, writer, and voice of Up the Road, a public radio show and podcast about California and the West. Kim lives in Paradise, California, though she grew up in Chico and has lived in Butte County most of her life.
Over the years she has worn many “journalist hats,” including those from the once notorious CSU Chico Wildcat, the Chico News & Review, and North State Public Radio. Her career has focused primarily on travel journalism. For 25 years Kim wrote and updated the first Moon Handbook guides to California, including the very popular Northern California Handbook. She is also a member, by invitation, of the international Society of American Travel Writers, now known simply as SATW.
